“With a Little Help from My Friends”

A slide show four years in the making.

This is my favorite Beatles song and perhaps my favorite song of all time. Everytime I listen to it, it reminds me of all the good times I’ve had with all my friends. I tried to get some pictures which try and invoke those types of memories. I hope you guys will all enjoy!

P.S. If you’re not included, it doesn’t mean I don’t like you or that we’re not close friends. It just means I had trouble finding a good picture of the both of us on Facebook.

They say it’s my birthday!

You say it’s your birthday
It’s my birthday too, yeah
They say it’s your birthday
We’re gonna have a good time
I’m glad it’s your birthday
Happy birthday to you.

Yes we’re going to a party party
Yes we’re going to a party party
Yes we’re going to a party party

I would like you to dance (Birthday)
Take a cha-cha-cha-chance (Birthday)
I would like you to dance (Birthday)
Dance

This is got to be one of my best birthdays of all time. (Maybe that’s a stretch, but it was great!) I mean last year I spent it in traffic school, so it’s already a crap load better!

I want to thank PPQQ and everyone on Vent for a wonderful 1 am party. Especially Shan for bringing the Birthdaycake and music! I think that really set the tone for how great today was going to be.

Every birthday message from Facebook, texts, calls, etc all make me happy and smile. Thanks everyone!

I hope this year will be full of great experiences and (hopefully) more blog posts.

Photo Post #2

Sorry I haven’t been updating, but I’m getting ready to move again. Sigh… I’m off to college soon!

In the mean time, enjoy these random pictures!

Like I’ve said before I’m no professional. I’m just sharing some of my more interesting photos that I’ve collected over the years.

Now I need to get back to packing for UCSB. Hopefully more updates will follow!

Andrew Kim being dumb #3

For those of you who know me, I am not a complete idiot. However, I occasionally do idiotic things that are not explainable by any means, even by me. Whether it be a lapse of common sense, a boost of confidence, a stupid issue of pride, or a simple innocence, these actions are sure to leave you wondering what the hell I was doing. Occasionally these sorts of things get documented for all of us to enjoy.

This is what you get when you’re blogging late at night and want to finish. You start to lose things like common sense.

Unfortunately I remember the thought process all too well. “I’m tired. Huh? What do I have here? Aha! It’s something that can wake me up!”

Moving and moving on

Sorry about not updating. I’ve been lazy and it’s been a pretty interesting and intense sort of past couple of weeks. For those of you who don’t know, I finally moved.

There’s a funny thing that happens when you start to pack up. As you pack up your things, you start to get nostalgic. Whether it be something you find you’ve always knew you had or something that you’ve thought you lost forever. Before you know it, you’re feeling all nostalgic and going back in time. It’s also weird to your room empty.

Not my bed anymore....

Not my bed anymore....

It's really weird to see your room empty

It's really weird to see your room empty

As I was packing, I’ve come across old journals, drawings, and countless other things. All it did was remind me how innocent and/or stupid I was as I child. Great times.

It just so happens that a good number of my friends are going off recently for college as many of them are on a semester-based University/College.

Life is an interesting thing. Just as I’m about to go to college, I have to move into a new house. And as if that wasn’t enough, my friends are off to college, most of which I do not think I have a proper send-off. (sorry guys!)

It just goes to show, life in unpredictable. Sometimes you get a crap load of curveballs instead of just one.

Well enough about me and pondering about my life. Come and check out my new room!

A little video help help you visualize my room.

Other than the lights and having to go upstairs for food (still an odd concept for me to handle), it’s nice. Too bad I have to go to college.

This second video is also from Spanish class. Pretty similar train of thought I suppose (even though I still don’t know why I did it). RUN FIVE DOLLAR MAN RUN!

Poem: “Waiting”

Just something I wrote. Probably due to the fact that it’s summer, I’m moving, and my friends are going to be off to college. This poem is about moving on.

“Waiting”
As I gazed upon the calm sky
I laid down and slowly closed my eye
Waiting for someone to come by
And I let out a heavy sigh

As I lay here quietly on the ground
I listened intently for a sound
Waiting for her to come around
And I realize she won’t be found

As I waited to meet her here
I choked as I shed a tear
Knowing that she isn’t near
And everything became more clear

As I got up, I made a motion
I would work hard, I can’t lack emotion
Waiting around was not the solution
I must try my best with all of my devotion

Grass
Not the greatest thing in the world, but I like it. I probably won’t do too many things like this since I’m not that great of a writer.

This first video in this “series” is from my Junior year in Spanish. I really suck at Spanish. The funny thing is I’ve always wondered why I was bad at Spanish. Thanks to Natasha and this video, I know why.

New Car Tour

I have been without a camera these past couple of weeks. Although it doesn’t make complete sense, my motivation for blogging went away with it.

Well I got my camera back and also something else…

My new car, the Hyundai Genesis

My new car, the Hyundai Genesis

Yeah that’s right a new car!

Here’s little video tour:

As with the house, I plan to enjoy this car as much as I can before I go to Santa Barbara.

Also expect more updates as I do have my camera again!

25 things about Andrew Kim

Remember when this was all the rage on Facebook? Now its summer, and I’m bored out of my mind.

  1. My name is Andrew Do Yup Kim. Yes, that Kim makes me Korean and yes, Do Yup (pronounced Dough as in “cookie dough” and Yup as in “Yup, that’s the right answer.”) is my Korean name.
    Andrew "Dough Yup" Kim

    "Gim Dough Yup"

  2. As a few of you know, I have a tendency to let my hair grow to outrageous lengths. I used to get 2 haircuts a year! I’ve gotten better about it and now get 3-4 haircuts a year.

Some people don't even think I got a haircut until they see a comparison shot

  3. I have really bad eyes! Like legally blind status. In other words I wear contacts and glasses!
  4. I stopped wearing jeans back in 3rd grade. I started wearing them again in May/June 2008 thanks to Bernard, Anna, and Sarah.
  5. I play expert Guitar/Bass in Rock Band (for the most part). I also play expert Vocals and a little bit of drums. I may not be the best, but I have good showmanship.
  6. I did this with no practice and in one take. Yeah, I’m that awesome.

  7. I used to like to break down the literal meaning of songs. (Look at a song’s lyrics and try to make sense out of it) I stopped when I tried to break down what “Smells Like Teen Spirit” could mean because while I was researching I found an interview in which Kurt Cobain pretty much said who cares. Out of respect for this amazing dead musician, I stopped.
  8. Despite not being athletic, I enjoy rollerblading, swimming, ice skating, and snowboarding. (I’m quite good at these as well)

    Shredding the Slopes

  9. Despite what I said in 8, I was involved in a snowboarding accident. I was going really fast and landed on my face. Unfortunately my face broke my fall and I received a ice burn on my face. It may not look like it, but snow can burn you.
  10. WARNING: Graphic Photos of my Accident

  11. Speaking of burning, I am a slight pyromaniac. Or more I used to be. I burnt an old Pokemon strategy guide in Daniel’s house once.
  12. Speaking of Daniel, I’ve known my best friend since preschool. It’s been a good 15ish years since I known Daniel Lee. Surprisingly enough, we did not become best friends until middle school nor did we ever go to the same school (Excluding preschool and high school)
  13. Speaking of school, I went to the same Christian private school from 1st-8th grade. Each grade had about 25 kids. very small.
  14. Okay enough of this “Speaking of…” Let’s see… I was known as “The Master” when I had a little too much to say about Super Smash Bros. Melee back in Junior Year. I was also known to “Q_Q” a crap load. Now in senior year, ever since a fateful car ride,  I’m known as “The M.O.P.” because I always “mop up.”

    The only thing he's missing is a M.O.P. ...

    The only thing he's missing is a M.O.P. ...

  15. I, generally speaking, like to use lots of sauce when I eat food, provided that they go well together. Example: When I eat Pho, I use half a quarter of a bottle of Sriracha. I also like to drench my onion rings in ranch. When I eat Chicken Nuggets, I use (AND ONLY USE) an ample amount of Sweet and Sour Sauce (because BBQ sauce sucks). Oddly enough, I eat my french fries plain. Random, right?
  16. Despite what I said in 5, I would like to learn how to play real guitar and sing well.
  17. George Harrison is my favorite Beatle and  “Here Comes the Sun” is my favorite song, even if he did ditch work and was high on LSD with Eric Clapton while watching the sun rise. It’s still a great song.
  18. Despite how I may appear, I am a total music noob. Some may attest because of my Caraoke, but honestly, it’s only the songs that I know that I know (or simple enough for me to memorize it). I honestly do not know music too well. If you tell me a band, I may not know their songs. In that same way, I may not know the bands of some great music out there. (I didn’t know who Coldplay was until “Viva La Vida,” but I knew “The Scientist” and “The Hardest Part” for the longest time. No lie)
  19. I failed my driving test twice. Say what you will but I was SERIOUSLY ROBBED both times. What can I do if pedestrians are like ninjas and people don’t let me take my right of way?
  20. I drive an old beat up Lexus. It’s died on me 3 times now. It’s good to know that I drive such a reliable car.

There's my beat up old Lexus

There's my beat up old Lexus

  21. I am an anime/manga fanatic. Although I do read Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece, I am not a Narutard and claim that it’s the best show ever. All three of them are entertaining, but they do not define what an anime and manga should be like.
  22. Shoujo (anime/manga aimed for girls) is a guilty pleasure of mine. Before you get judgmental, let me remind you that Boys Over Flowers is a Shoujo!
  23. I rarely drink soda when I eat out. I tend to get lemonade, raspberry iced tea, or water. Also I really hate “black” sodas (Pepsi and Coke). Root beer and Dr. Pepper is okay though.
  24. Pork is my favorite meat. When it comes to Korean BBQ, tacos, and more specifically Kogi, I always get the pork! Not to say the beef is bad, it’s just pork is awesome too!
  25. I really love my friends. So much that it sometimes annoys the living crap out of them. You know, stuff like paying for meals and doing favors, it’s hard to stop me.
  26. Although I appear to be a slob and apathetic at times, I am kinda OCD when I am actually responsible for a group thing. I really hate to disappoint anyone. (“Don’t fail me Andrew…”) I still shudder when I hear it.
  27. Once  when I was depressed, I played Tetris for almost 5 hours. I was possibly on my way for a world record but a great friend of mine happened to say hi. I responded with a hi back and I died in an instant. To this day, I still can’t reach even half to where I was before. It always made me wonder if I would still be playing today, but I thank my friend for snapping me out of it.

This took a lot longer to do than I thought, but it was worth the effort. I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did while making this list.
